Here are two links to NASA pages that have good information. The first one covers many different ways to view the eclipse and contains several methods you could use, including some fun and interesting ways to view the partial phase. The second video is targeting younger kids for making a pinhole pro...

The gates don't typically lock until 10:00pm. I was out there recently, and I know they were open at about 9:30pm. You should be fine if you get there before then and they pen automatically for you to exit.

Re: Storage ideas

All good recommendations. Situations are unique based on equipment. I use this Dewalt toolbox as my base, it is sturdy and has nice size wheels for traversing rough ground. I fill it, then use it as a two wheeled dolly, stacking more stuff on top. Use care in choosing the size of the boxes or bags. ...

Re: Help Needed for an Elementary School Passion Project: due 2/25

Ha! You hit on a point that I began my response. I told her this is a very broad list of questions and that volumes of books have been written attempting to answer these questions. I had about a 45-minute phone conversation to accomplish this. Let's say it was a high-level overview delving into spec...

Re: Sextant understanding and use

I used a sextant as an Air Force navigator. I brought a B-52 from the west coast of the US to Guam using the Sun and Venus, along with variations in pressure. I am here so I did find the island. We were only a few miles from my calculated position after that distance and time. It works! We used a bu...

Re: Viewing Milky Way

St. Croix State Park, east of Hinkley, is a good dark location. It's in a sweet little pocket of dark sky. They have cabins available which may be a good option for you. It's not west of the metro but is a good location.
