Now wouldn't it be cool if there was an email address to communicate directly with the webteam?!

Oh there is, try: mas-webteam@mnastro.org

Hello!

I used to live by the airport and can tell you there is a huge difference in light pollution between minneapolis and all of our sites.

I would follow Dave's advice and borrow a scope before making a purchase.

Re: What to use for Star Map

Speaking of headlamps, I've recently begun using the Black Diamond "Cosmo" model which is much better than any other that I've used. Its red light is dimmer than most, and is dimmable to a very low level though not quite as dim as the Orion Dual Beam flashlight. It has two buttons, one of...

Re: 1st Telescope recommendations

I will speak to the astrophotography part. The telescopes/mounts recommended will work fine for visual, however the long focal lengths for beginning astrophotography gives you a very large learning curve. Since you own some DSLRs and some lenses I suggest you use those to start the astrophotography...

Re: Table Set Up

I would suggest getting a husky router table from the home depot. They're kinda of expensive but for $90 you get 400 pounds to put on it and I think it weighs less than 10 pounds.

You can't avoid dew other than covering the table like the others have said.

Re: Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ

Who said she has to spend $1000?! The AVX is about $700. Hell, she can borrow mine if she wants and test drive it since I have another to use. The vibration pads are a gimmick. With a guider and appropriate mount, you won't tell the difference. My advice: get some rings and a dovetail to put your sc...

Re: Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ

If you're going to attach a camera, you're going to want an EQ mount. The AVX is a good starter EQ mount. Even the CGEM would be better for more payload and stability depending on the scope you get. I wouldn't put much more than an 80mm refractor, guider and DSLR on an AVX. When you get your mount, ...

Re: CANCELLED -- March B-SIG Presentation - All About Deep Sky Objects

Uberconference is a good alternative. Before retiring, my company used video conferences and bridges for meetings and training seminars extensively (and I am sure they still are, and most likely have ramped up their use). With so many businesses closed down and with voluntary isolation, we sure cou...

Re: Astrophotography @ November events?

I've thought about it and am considering it. There is a live stacking feature in The Sky X (it just works!) that Mark Job uses. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it working with a DSLR (haven't looked into it yet). I would most likely be using the imaging rig at Cherry Grove that night. Not sure i...

CGO Imaging Forum

Wondering if an admin can create a new forum for the CGO Imaging Platform? We'd like it to be separate from the CGO Key holder so it doesn't clog it up.

Please give me, Dave Venne, and Doug N (ddn) moderator access.

I sent an ail to Clayton and Merle and I bet their spam folders got it.

Thank you!

https://www.npr.org/2019/04/10/711723383/watch-earth-gets-its-first-look-at-a-black-hole Contrary to my expectations, this is of the supermassive black hole at the center of M87, rather than the Milky Way’s Sagittarius A* (that should come soon, hopefully.) Yeah, none of their models stand up to scientific scrutiny. Their answer is always, "perspective". And occasionally, "density". Besides believing the Earth is flat, they believe gravity is not real, and there must be a dome over our heads to hold the air in. *Sigh* Yeah, they’re...

I thought it was hilarious when the one guy bought a ring laser gyroscope for $20K so he could disprove the Earth's rotation, but then it indicated a (surprise!!!) 15 degree per hour rotation. Then he says to another, "we gotta keep this confidential". The best statement in the whole thin...
