Re: First image from the JWST!!

I waited 15 years and spent $10 billion dollars and all I got was this lousy Strehl ratio of 0.0001. - Chris Burke

Suresh & Merle, Thanks for the links and images. I climbed out of bed early to watch the launch, and it was well worth it. I downloaded tonight's JWST ephemeris from NASA/JPL after it was suggested (on Twitter) that it might (might!) be bright enough to observe over the next several days. Edited...

Re: James Webb Space Telescope Prelaunch Briefing(s)

The sun shield reminds me of a giant clipper ship with its innumerable lines and pulleys. Despite the complexity, I'm optimistic about the mission's success!

If so, bump.
(I don't pretend it would be an easy process.)

Re: Four Telescopes

Ha! Matt, that's perfect. I'm reminded of Mini-Me from Austin Powers: Goldmember. He had the most appropriate nickname, Tripod.

Steve, what do you use as an information source? I've found https://james.darpinian.com/satellites/ to be pretty reliable. It seems to match up with the god's eye view http://celestrak.com/ (remembering to correct 5 hours for time zone & day light savings differences).

Nice pic, Don!

I'd like to register three guests, not including myself. I will be volunteering for both sessions.
