Celestron NexYZ smartphone adapter
Asking $35, it’s $52 new plus tax. Only used it a couple of times, works fine just not something I need. Pickup in SW MPLS or meet somewhere reasonably close off a major highway.

Re: Bell Museum planet parties 6/24, 6/25
At 03:50 I got in the car with my daughter (10) and brother-in-law, but the skies looked terrible. We drove about 45 minutes south on I-35 and were able to see the moon, venus, mars, jupiter, and saturn. We *might* have caught a glimpse of Mercury on the way back, not completely sure. The four plane...

Re: Advice Needed for Eyepieces and Filter
Merle, you described exactly the thought process I've been going through this week and I was getting close to buying some eyepieces for ~$100. I'm going to put that on hold and wait until I have the chance to bring my scope to ELO and try out some nicer pieces.

Re: Accessories for first telescope
Thank you, Steve, this response was really helpful! That tripod bag looks like exactly what I need too, it's great to have a first hand recommendation like that. My scope (yep, 900mm) only came with 5mm and 25mm eyepieces, so maybe a 10 and a 15 would fill that out as you say. When it comes to dew, ...

Accessories for first telescope
I purchased my first telescope a couple weeks ago, a Skywatcher 100mm refractor paired with a Celestron AVX mount, and I absolutely love it. I've observed the moon, some open clusters, mars, lots of double stars, and a few variable stars over the course of a few viewing sessions and been really impr...

7x50 binoculars
Hi, at the B-Sig star party last week I noticed that a few people had 7x50 binoculars. What brand/model have people had good luck with in that configuration? I have a pair of 10x50 that I've found to have a bit too much image shake when looking at the sky and may return them. Thank you in advance! -...

Re: Beginning and city light
So thanks to the great MnAstro loaner program I was able to spend a couple hours last night looking through a Celestron 8E in my backyard. Between the downtown glow, streetlights, and neighborhood geography my options were limited but I was able to see nice views of: - The orion nebula - Pleiades - ...

Re: Beginning and city light
Thank you, everyone! I will definitely look into the loaner program and will also be at the "star party" next week.
Thank you, Clayton, for those links -- I learned a lot.

Beginning and city light
Hi all, I've thought about buying my first telescope and I live inside the Minneapolis city limits (albeit it at the very edge, I can see Edina from my house so I'm not in the middle of downtown). Realistically what would the quality of my viewing be with a entry-ish level telescope, say a Celestron...
