Re: Restoring & Maintaining a 125-Year-Old Telescope

I can’t say that grainger.com is one of my go-to sites for Astronomy news :) At the bottom of the Grainger website is a link for KnowHow. Includes info on safety, building operations and tools, but also articles on glassblowing, making beer, building a Halloween scare house, etc. and the people who...

Promising Discovery on Low Frequency Gravity Waves

Ever bump into someone and start talking astronomy? Met a relative of an astrophysicist (Joseph Simon) who recently reported on exciting developments in gravitational wave research at the January American Astronomical Society meeting. NANOGrav (North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational ...

Re: $1.5M Eden Prairie Luxury Home is a Stargazer's Delight...??

Can't help much there. Before the home at 8611 Meadowvale was built, what appears to be a domed structure present in April 1991 and removed between March 2005 and March 2006 (from Google Earth Pro). It was quite possibly used by the resident of 8610 Red Oak Dr, the only close house in 1991. Online p...

Re: $1.5M Eden Prairie Luxury Home is a Stargazer's Delight...??

From the Star Trib: "You can see the moon and sometimes even Venus from the two-story windows in Barbara Hamilton-Sustad's living room. A view of the planets and stars was one of the things that she and her late husband, Gary Sustad, thought about when they built their Eden Prairie home in 2006...

Re: Apollo's Flawed Legacy

Although she did say "...the legacy of Apollo is crippling.... Apollo ruined spaceflight" in her intro, you are right, it was not a thesis statement. It was apparently meant as a provocative exaggeration to keep us watching.

Re: Apollo's Flawed Legacy

The first steps to space started long before President Eisenhower. So many dominoes had to fall just right to get us into space. It wasn’t only the politicians who needed to believe we could and should go to space. Wernher Von Braun and others had been selling the idea, but it just wasn’t gaining tr...

And you thought your neighbor's floodlight was bad. China plans to launch an illumination satellite in 2020 that will reflect the Sun's light. From western Nebraska, Venus was brilliant. But I specifically looked for Regulus and knew where it would be; these old eyes did not see it. My first eclipse too.

Hi Steve,

I have not noticed any change, but they have been partial width as long as I can recall in Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge and Firefox 52 (Windows 10, 32-bit). There are options for zoom under View in the Firefox menu bar.
