Re: Potential Sightings of the Inspiration4 SpaceX Dragon Spacecraft for the Twin Cities

That makes sense. I saw a very dim satellite only visible with averted vision just before the bright pass. That must have been Inspiration4

Re: The challenges of being an amateur astronomer

I've been questioned by the police twice over the years. Once was in a park (boat ramp) that was closed after dark, photographing an out of control {Japanese?) satellite. The 2 officers were very nice in asking what I was doing. The younger one wanted me to leave right away. The older one immediatel...

This is what I use. I got it at Target years ago. Also use a storage tub on its side for my computer.

Looks like I am not getting notifications either. I have over 40 when I just signed in and no emails on them.

Dave

I agree, it looks strange but "Hubble data showed that the two dwarfs are indeed dancing alone, unperturbed by a massive planetary companion."

Dancing Brown Dwarf Stars

Interesting things show up as they compare years of Hubble photos. This seemingly unspectacular series of dots with varying distances between them actually shows the slow waltz of two brown dwarfs. The image is a stack of 12 images made over the course of three years with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space T...

Here is a photo I took at NNSF in 2014. At the time I thought it was called pillar aurora? Not quite the same.

Re: Northern lights from 6/23/2015

Excellent videos Steve. Looks like there may be some more aurora tonight. Here are some photos and video from light polluted Roseville. All taken at the zenith and enhanced although they were faintly visible and white with the unaided eye. Used 7D MII, 2 sec, ISO 800, F2 16mm lens. When I first saw ...

I was just north of Hinkley at 10 to 10:30 or so and saw nothing. There were high thin clouds to the north but not enough to screen any aurora.

Re: Expanding Universe

I believe the moon is moving away from the earth at a couple of inches a year. It was much closer to the earth at the beginning and would have been an amazing sight. This movement has nothing to do with the expansion of the universe as far as I know. It is due to its orbital speed that it initially ...

A while ago a friend of mine let me scan the contact prints he had from the Apollo 11 flight. I don't remember why the deep sky object photos were included, maybe they were just some others he had..
