Re: January B-SIG Virtual Presentation -- Saturday Jan. 7th -- 1:00pm -- "Aids to Navigating the Night Sky"

Greetings, I (virtually) attended the B-Sig meeting and wanted to thank everyone involved in making this happen! Special thanks to Steve for an excellent job, very much appreciated. While I am what I call and advance beginner (been doing this for over 30 years now) I wanted to catch up on what's new...

Also, if it did rain and we held the event, perhaps some of the floats in the parade might float?
umm, never mind.

I have an eVscope, quite a few APOs, No RASAs, and the only DOB I own is a 4" commemorative. Yet, I most resemble, unfortunately, the DOB guy!

Very nice image Kris! I was just trying to make a joke.

But, I am always smiling!

The Monkey

I can see the Monkey, he or she or whatever it identifies as is looking left!

Of course I can see the pheasant in the clouds too.

Just sayin'

Re: New version coming of: The Backyard Astronomer

This was, and is still, my favorite book for Beginners to intermediate. I learned so much from his first edition when I was new to the hobby. I even stole his description (I think he coined the phrase!) of many of us amateurs which is still how I describe myself: Recreational Astronomer! There is in...

Re: Scope suggestions

Hi Cindy, I do not think the StarBase 80 would be a good choice. A few months ago I purchased one just to see what one could get from Takahashi at that price point. The telescope itself may not be too bad, but it is hard to tell with the really wiggly mount! If you would like, you could loan mine (l...

Thanks for the image Merle, beautiful shot!

I was hoping to get to ELO in time for the Classroom training, dinner, and the public evening. I ended up at a graduation party instead, long story.

Perhaps I'll manage to make it down there someday!

Hi All, I had a great time Saturday evening out at Onan. I managed to see the SN in M51 though the 20" 'Padre", the 16" LX200, and Deane's 10" Mewlon. I also had a good look via the StellaCam 3 on the video rig. My thanks to the folks staffing Onan, and special thanks to Bob, Cla...

Cool, nice shot! As it happens I was out on the deck (I think some parts of me fell off in the cold and may still be out on the deck!) last night. I could not see the SN visually (10" RC), but was able to get it in an image. I think I could have done a better job of focusing, but I was really c...

This Year!

Hi All, Awfully quiet around here! So, I've got a few questions for you all. The last week of the year has always been my 'time' for assessment and planning. You know, what did I get done that I had wanted to, and what projects, goals, etc., do I want to do this coming year. While I go through this ...

So, what are you betting, Comet or impact?

Have there been other such discoveries that would give one a better idea of the odds?

Are you going to take a shot at this object?

Greetings all, After some consideration (thus the delay) I concluded that this requires at least a public "Well Done!". I know some members are already aware of this, as is anyone who reads the St. Paul Pioneer Press; for the rest of us, give this a quick read: http://www.twincities.com/ci...

Hi Kirby,

My advice, for what it is worth, would be to use bolt *through* the particle board. I have never had much luck with screws *into* particle board. But, your mileage may vary! :-)

I think the MAS has a 10" loaner that you might be able to try before you buy and see what you think. I don't think we have a 12", but I am not sure!
