If there are still openings, I'd like to reserve 3 spots (myself, my wife and my 3 year old boy). -- William

Planning stargazing nights around the moon?

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere. Is there already a site or other tool that calculates the dates and times when the moon is either not yet risen, already set, or in a phase that is less bright? For example, I'd like to know well in advance if the moon, although nearly full, will not rise unt...

Re: Was the Space Shuttle worth it?

Why not revamp NASA instead of recreating an entire new agency? I think a large part of the impetus for Schmitt's idea is that NASA has become an unworkable organization. It is beyond revamping. It needs to be replaced. As he says: To organize and manage the start-up of NSEA, experienced, successfu...

Re: Was the Space Shuttle worth it?

...if we are resigned to inadequate funding for NASA... NASA funding has actually increased. That is not the problem. As much as I respect Charles Bolden, I (sadly) have to say that I think what is missing is leadership. It's not all Bolden's fault. Congress is right in there. But regardless of bla...

Re: Observing Manuals for AL Observ. Clubs?

Hi Nancy -- I'm not sure whether you will be going to the Onan star party this weekend (or if the weather will cooperate) -- but if it's on and you are going, I have a copy of the Universe Sampler you could borrow for a while. Just reply to this post if interested and we can work out logisitics.

Re: Where Will the Space Shuttles End Up?

Southern California's ties to the shuttle program date back to the early 1970s... I was lucky enough to visit the Rockwell facility in Downey during its heydey -- the attached concept art is part of their packet of stuff. Even got to play around in their full-size shuttle mockup. I shudder to think...

Re: Lunar Eclipse Star Party

If the weather is uncooperative, NASA has a "stay up all night" webcast. Not as good as the real thing by any means, but better than nothing.

I echo the thanks for all who "carried the mail" on Camping with the Stars. My daughter and I had a great time even though the wind did blow down our tent Saturday afternoon while she was sleeping in it! :P Strange as it may sound coming from someone like me who pretty-much always is readi...
