Re: Forum Maintenance
I noticed quite a few bogus registrations on the message board. It looks like the Spam Countermeasure setting was set back to "reCaptcha" instead of the "Q&A" (Question & Answer) .... I implemented the Q&A for registrations years ago to stop the bogus registrations an...

Re: Custom YouTube BBCode
There is a great Media Embed Extension from PHPBB that works for all screens and all types of media. From YouTube to Twitter. In fact you do not even need to use the BBCode for it. It will automatically parse anything you post. https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=616&t=2414716 BUT......

Re: Daylight savings problem again?
I think I figured it out... If you are in the central time zone... You should be -5UTC and select America/Chicago. That is what the general setting for this site. I am guessing that many of you may have manually changed the time when we switched to DST. Then when we upgraded from the old software th...

Re: Daylight savings problem again?
Yes -5UTC
I don't recall how it all works. But I do know that it updates automatically for daylight savings.
I actually think it just changes everyone from -6 to -5 for DST. I will need to investigate. So basically it shifts whatever zone you have up or down 1 hour when needed.

Re: Moon image links on weather pages
I do not... This is a script that automatically grabs the most recent moon phase off the internet somewhere. I am not sure how often it checks to update the phase. But I just thought it would be fun to add it.

Re: Moon image links on weather pages
I recall seeing a Moon Phase mod for the message board a few weeks ago. So I installed it and you will see it in the upper right of the message board banner. It disappears once the site goes in to mobile size. No links to anything. Nothing special. I just thought it would be a fun little add to the ...

Re: Sending private messages
Ron is correct. It will stay in your outbox until the person logs in and read the message. If their eMail address is no longer valid, it would just mean that they may not get a notification of the PM if they have that setting turned on. But the message is still there, waiting for them to login and r...

No problem!
BTW... In case individuals do not like having a new tab open when you click a link. You can go in to your own User Control Panel.... Click the Board Preferences Tab and at the bottom you will see you can turn off "Open External Links in New Window"

Along with the board software update, I have also installed and Extension that causes all external links in post to open in a new tab. It will open a new session on your phone browser as well.
Give it a try...

Re: Open Link in new tab by default?
I hope to be upgrading the message board software in the next week or so. It will be a nice upgrade that will make this board mobile responsive and a few other nice features. I will easily be able to add an extension to the new board to open up all URL's in a new tab.

Re: Forum Software Update Needed.... New Admin as well?
I have used phpBB message board software on my site since 2003. I have done these large upgrades before. It would take most of an evening to upgrade, but it is not too tough. This upgrade should have happened a few years ago, along with minor updates. The longer we wait, the more difficult it will b...

Re: Forum Software Update Needed.... New Admin as well?
I understand.... I just wanted to check in because the software is woefully out of date and a security risk. I have never moved from one software to another. With this place being so old, not sure how well a move would work. It would be bad to lose messages. I believe when Mike Kibat initially insta...

Re: Forum Software Update Needed.... New Admin as well?
Have there been any thoughts on upgrading this software to the latest and greatest? phpBB is about to go final on version 3.2.0 but if we could at least get this place to the most recent 3.1.x version, this board would be much more user friendly. 3.1.x is MOBILE responsive and would make this messag...

I will check the moderator permissions when I get the chance.
FYI... This place should be upgraded to the latest version of phpBB. The new version is mobile responsive and 100x easier to use on a phone.

Re: Moderator question
Do moderators have access to EDIT a post?
As an admin, I have that access. I can go in to the first post off a thread and edit it. Then select STICKY at the bottom.
Example: I was able to go in to the Sticky thread in the Imaging SIG and unstick the thread.

Is anyone else having problems staying logged in? I keep getting logged after some time has passed. Even if I click the keep me logged in button. So something is not quite right.
