Thanks, Clayton, for being the organizer.
I will as the current MAS President to make an announcement at the next meeting too.
I made a post over on a Slack channel too linking this post to that post. Let's see how that works.

For those planning I came across this presentation.
Fred does a great job with history but also has many tips and information to help plan. Pretty complete.

Re: Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF close approach

RGB_Comet.jpg This is image Dean is referring to from the meeting last night. This comet is nowhere near the brightness social media has made it out to be. As a novice visual observer such as myself, I have problems finding this comet in my backyard. This image was captured from Texas remotely with...

I am excited to finally see the mainstream media show the fact the night sky is disappearing. I hope KARE does a follow up.

Re: Ten Years Ago: Where Were You When Curiosity Landed on Mars?

I was watching live too.

I was fascinated, I can't even imagine the tension in the room until the response "Touchdown confirmed!" was heard.

I felt that same tension on the landing of the Perseverance rover landing, even though this was not a new thing.

Pretty cool.

Re: Polar alignment newbie question

Fred, My process for polar align is as follows: Setup with the mount on the tripod (the tripod must be level) use a level app on my phone to set the altitude and azimuth as close as I can based on my location in longitude and latitude. Then I use my hand control or my control software to point to th...

Re: Venus at Inferior Conjunction

That is a good and safe distance to catch a little crescent of Venus. Inferior conjunction at 0916 hrs local time but only 14° altitude. Might have to wait until 1200 hrs. Need to clear the wall of the obsy. I might give it a shot.

The best customer service and delivery is High Point Scientific. The MAS orders nearly all components and equipment from them. They always answer our questions. They are simply there when we need them.

Re: New member, looking for advice on purchasing DSLR

Hi Brandon, Welcome to the Minnesota Astronomical Society. Depending on your location within the metro area, I would not spend another dime, I would request (yes you can make a request) to be trained at CGO to be a key holder and to receive training on the imaging rig. The equipment is top of the li...

Re: Anyone headed south for the total soar eclipse?

I saw some nice beads and prominences on the date and time feed. A guy in Japan and a Lady in Norway. They were OK. They were switching from about 4 or 5 locations including the same NASA feed which was cloudy. I am unsure why we needed to see the clouds. Still not the same as being there.

Re: Bell Museum Statewide Star Party needs Globe at Night Observations

This is a real easy activity. I did mine tonight from my observatory. I used the Loss of the Night App. I found the app was fairly intuitive, I did not read the tutorial and I completed my observation in about 5 minutes Go out and observe, it was not a perfectly clear night but good enough to accomp...

Virtual Star Party

I am just curious if anyone out there is interested in doing a virtual star party. I know there are people who are members of the MAS who do not get out on a regular basis especially during the quarantine. I have equipment and the infrastructure to share. Even if it is just a look at the Moon. I can...

Thank you Ron and Dale for pointing us to the website. I think this consumed at least 2 hours of "driving" around on the Moon, it is so easy to forget the scale.

Amazing.
