Re: The moon comes to ELO

A GIANT mega-thanks to Merle, Bob Kerr, the MAS board, all The volunteers at ELO and everyone for making this all happen. It was a big moment for our club, and shows just how much we can accomplish when we pull together. The weather didn't cooperate, but for sure our facilities and members really ki...

Looking forward to this!

The clear sky chart shows the clouds clearing up around 6PM, just in time for some solar viewing and a night of observing!

Re: Perseid 2014

The best time to see meteor showers is usually after midnight, and by that time the moon have risen into nearly the exact area you would expect to see meteors. Depending on the atmospheri...

ISP (Impromptu Star Party) at CGO 6/6

http://cleardarksky.com/c/ChrryGrvMNkey.html If CSC is correct, tonight might be okay. I'm thinking on a trip to Cherry Grove Observatory, if I get out of work early enough and if the forecast doesn't take a turn for the worse. Unless others join, I will likely use one of the on-site dobs and not op...

Some interesting astronomy reading

The University of California High-Performance AstroComputing Center (UC-HiPACC) regularly puts out articles, called "AstroShorts" (which coincidentally was my nickname in High School). These are intended to be published in club newsletters and the like, but since our GEMINI newsletter is e...

My first thought would be to rent a camper's cabin (if you are not the tent-camping sort) at one of the state parks away from the Cities and other populated areas. They run about 40-60 bucks a night. http://images.dnr.state.mn.us/destinations/state_parks/reservations/camper_cabin_map.jpg Lake Maria ...
