Re: Possible meteor storm, evening of May 30

At CGO still cloudy and windy. Hopefully it will clear soon but GEOS imagery makes me think ELO is the place to be.

Re: Possible meteor storm, evening of May 30

Clear Sky Chart has clearing around 10pm in CGO but with terrible seeing. I not sure how much seeing will be an issue with meteors. I suspect not that much. So will be watching for next model run before my final decision.

Re: James Webb Space Telescope Prelaunch Briefing(s)

So now before the deployment is successful or ends in failure I have wondered what my thoughts would be if the telescope deployment fails. Will I condemn the hubris of engineers and managers for creating the "Goldberg" machine or give them a thumbs up for a good try? If successful do I app...

Its been some time since I was involved with the process so my knowledge may be out of date. The original intent was the form would go to the membership coordinator and then he would update the others areas. You can contact Steve Emert our membership coordinator for these changes. Near The bottom of...

Re: September Beginner Group Observing Session – Saturday Sept. 18th -- 7:00pm -- Metcalf Field at Belwin Conservancy

Is this field in a dark enough location to be able to see the Milky Way? My guess would be no. Hello Mike, Welcome to the MAS. When the Moon is out of the sky the Milky Way is a faintly visible overhead from Metcalf . Sept 18 the moon is around 96% full so the Milky Way will be mostly washed out fr...

Re: Advice Needed for Eyepieces and Filter

Before Clayton chimes in, here's my guess: Close Mr. Cooper. If I remember correctly it was a Discontinued Meade 5000 SWA 40mm 68° AFOV. The SWA was a Wannabe 41 Panoptic. However it was not quite as good. For the price I paid used it's in my eyepiece case until a 41 Pan comes my way. Its far from ...

Shop around for prices. For instance: https://www.astronomics.com/eyepieces-b ... series=490 are currently cheaper than your link. Also check if they are in stock. Can't say much about the x-cels having not used them.

Re: New member, looking for advice on purchasing DSLR

Brandon welcome to the MAS. I'm not an experienced astrophotographer so take my comments with a grain of salt. My snarky suggestion is spend the 300.00 on gas and go to Cherry Grove and learn to use our imaging rig there. You will have access to a super quality scope, camera and mount. You will prod...

Realistically what would the quality of my viewing be with a entry-ish level telescope, say a Celestron 5SE or maybe even an 8SE at my house? I had the pleasure to observe with Mr Singmaster once at the Heart of America Star Party. He was an interesting person. I acquired one of his scopes a few years ago and although over 20 years old I still find it a solid and very enjoyable scope.

Holiday observing

The weather has been great for some unexpected December observing. However the season brings some challenges.

Although it did not hurt the planetary observing much.

Re: Street lights account for only 20% of light pollution?

Yeah Tuscon is probably an outlier. I wish Commercial Lighting would be more strongly controlled. I doubt we will ever impact the security and safety segment, however these smart systems may help.

Different Year (2012), Different City ( Berlin) slightly higher 31.6%. Methodology is not quite the same. ..lighting associated with streets has been found to be the dominant source of zenith directed light pollution (31.6%), although other land use classes have much higher average brightness. These...
