Virgo Venture next weekend - May 30/31

Post by jjones7777 »

Greetings

The Virgo Venture is scheduled for this upcoming weekend at CGO. NOAA is currently predicting about 30% cloud cover. I've attached the Virgo Venture Log sheet for you to record your observations. Greg Haubrich's asterism chart will be available at CGO. I'll post more information as we get nearer to the weekend.

Jerry,
I'm planning on being there on Friday. Will any of the big scopes be used?

Mike,
Depending upon who shows up, the 24" dob should be available as well as the 12" Meade schmit-cass.

Currently, the BAD's servo's are not working. Therefore, it's a push-to. Last week, it was used and several objects where observed.
The 12", however, is still having problems. The goto function does not slew the scope to the correct spot.

In order to get my Messier pin from the AL I can't use any GOTO...so, issue with the 12" is not an issue with me.

I will need some training on the 12. Can Jerry help me out?

If you are working on the AL Messier List (a worthy pursuit - I just finished it last summer), you would be fine using one of the CGO on-site dobs - there are two you can use with no special training. Ask for Nancy or Vic when you get there - either of us can show you the scopes and help you get set up. There's a 10" and an 8". Or, you can share the BAD 24" with whoever else is using it (might be me....). I'm not sure the 12" EQ is even working to use manually.
