Is there a public event this year for the Perseids?
One of the meet ups I go to has expressed interest in attending.

Re: Perseid 2014
I've been out of the astronomical loop for awhile, but does this mean that a wash out of everything, or just a lower rate of detection? For comparison, if I go to a dark site, will the full moon be any more or less obtrusive than suburban lighting?
I remember years ago watching a beautiful shower while on ferry leaving Seattle, but I also understand that was a really spectacular year. Can still remember the beautiful green streaks across the sky.

Re: Perseid 2014
Maddy,
A full moon is likely to wash out all but the very brightest of meteors, even from a darker sky location. The best time to see meteor showers is usually after midnight, and by that time the moon have risen into nearly the exact area you would expect to see meteors.
Depending on the atmospheric conditions, a full moon can be much worse in its area of sky than my suburban (Roseville) light pollution.
In other words, you may see a few, but a spectacular display is very unlikely.

Thanks everyone for the unfortunate information. Still, rather be told the truth, then to organize an event just to have it fail.
