The moon comes to ELO

Post by merle »

In case you hadn't heard,

The MAS in cooperation with NASA, invites you to a special exhibit commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Apollo landings on the moon. The exhibit will feature a 3.5 billion year old lunar rock returned to earth by the astronauts of Apollo 15. In addition, there will be displays of Apollo mission photographs, illustrations, and maps.

The "lunar sample" will be on display at the Eagle Lake Observatory on Saturday July 19 and during our Camping with the Stars event from August 1-3.

The public Star Party begins at 7:00 pm this Saturday. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see a part of the moon up close.

Looking forward to this!

The clear sky chart shows the clouds clearing up around 6PM, just in time for some solar viewing and a night of observing!

A while ago a friend of mine let me scan the contact prints he had from the Apollo 11 flight. I don't remember why the deep sky object photos were included, maybe they were just some others he had..

A GIANT mega-thanks to Merle, Bob Kerr, the MAS board, all
The volunteers at ELO and everyone for making this all happen. It was a big moment for our club, and shows just how much
we can accomplish when we pull together.

The weather didn't cooperate, but for sure our facilities and members really kicked a$$! This was a world-class
exhibit regardless of the fact that it was presented by an all-volunteer organization.

I see this event as only a sample and the beginning of what we can do as a group. Our incredible facilities and our talented and dedicated volunteers are ready to bring our dark hobby to so many more people!

Keep up the great work everyone, and get ready for even more! I am incredibly proud of us all!

Well said, Ric. I agree. Thanks to all who worked to make this happen.

Here are a couple photos I took of the lunar sample. Lighting was a little tricky since it's encased in a plastic pyramid, but I used an off-camera flash to get side lighting.
