Northern Nights Star Fest 2014

Post by clayton »

I thought I would start this thread here in the public area so everyone can share some NNSF Fever.

I am really looking forward to the NNSF 2014: dark skies, good talks, nice inexpensive rooms and food, stress free days, good company . Oh, and the 25 and 30-inch Obsessions they are not bad either.

This is the only dedicated dark sky observing I will likely get this season. I hope to make the most of it. I'm planning on trying out some new ( to me) eyepieces if usps comes through -- fingers crossed! I may even start that Herschel list. :D

I'm bringing all my closet of astrogear to do some trading so bring your stuff too!

Just mailed my form in to LLCC this morning. Hopefully they get it in time - I'm showing up anyway. My dob is in pieces all over my kitchen floor as I disassembled it to clean the bearings and to install a crayford focuser. I hope I can get it all together and working again - if not I'll load up the pieces in to my car and bring them to LLCC for some help!!

I've got the fever...I've already got my imaging targets picked out--some nebulae on the Bright Nebula list: DG 19, IC 1287, IC 4954/55, and maybe additional light frames for a pretty picture of the Helix. I may even suspend my imaging credentials and mooch some eyeball time on the big scopes.

If you haven't been to NNSF, you're missing a great astronomy experience. Super-dark skies, great facilities, wonderful companionship, relaxing and beautiful environment. I've been to every NNSF and will be there again this year, with as many kinks worked out of my 20" scope as possible.

Too many small scopes and binoculars to mention

Even though the registration deadline has passed, you still might be able to attend! Call or e-mail the good folks at the LLCC and ask. You might not be able to purchase the meals because they have to order and plan ahead of time, but if you're willing to fend for yourself on the food, you will very likely be able to stay onsite.
The phone# is 218-768-4653 E-mail them at info@llcc.org

Well after one night of fabulous skies we are on our second night of rain. The photons from wendesday still have us energized and ready for clear skies on Saturday night. Jerry the cloud whisperer is working hard to bring up clear skies.
