CGO July 17,18

Post by heinerv »

In the past our observing chair was charged with evaluating the weather and making the decision of calling a star party on. For obvious reasons this is not an easy task. This week end is a prime example. Clear sky clock shows a that tonight (Friday) should be ok, a bit dewy but doable. However, the weather channel and weather underground show clouds and rain rolling end around 11pm with a 50% chance of rain. Not exactly good observing weather.

Tomorrow night (Saturday) on the looks a lot better. Less dew, and clear most of the evening according to weather channel. However, Unisys weather shows some chance of clouds. Clear sky clock won't have any predictions until this afternoon.

My leanings are to wait until Saturday. However, I'm interested in what other people are thinking and who is planning on coming when.

I'm taking my chances with tonight because there is MAS Public Observing tomorrow night at ELO that I am involved with. However, Vic, for many folks your point is worth considering.

Similar situation for me. I have an activity on Saturday that makes Friday my only opportunity.

As of now, I'm planning on Saturday night. The CSC transparency prediction for Sat. night is below average at this point, but cloud cover looks like it will be OK.

I wasn't supposed to be in town, but my boss had a death in the family so we all got to leave early. This sounds morbid, but I am thrilled that I am back in town from San Diego! Therefore, I am now planning on going to Cherry Grove tonight and Onan on Saturday night. My daughter is bringing friends to CGO. They are excited the warming house is now air conditioned!
Crossings my fingers for clear skies.

Well, the Friday group got completely clouded out. Brandon checked current radar/ir for our area and everyone packed up at 10:30. Anyone thinking about tonight?

I am considering coming to CGO tonight as well.
Would I be able to use one of the CGO scopes? I am not a key holder, but would like to be.

I'll be heading to CGO again tonight.

Dan, there are two on-site loaner scopes (8" and 10" dobs) that do not require keyholder training - you would be able to use on of those (1st-come, 1st served) provided a keyholder is present to unlock the warming house. I'm planning to be there between 8:30 and 9pm.
