CGO Star Party

Post by rzylka »

Hello all, Vic will be gone gazing at geysers or something so I, Rob Zylka, will be happy to join anyone who feels like giving it a try. Lets keep an eye on the weather. Thanks, Rob

Hi peeps,

I'm interested in going to CGO as well this Friday 8/26, but the weather is looking mighty iffy.

If the forecast changes, I'd like to come...

Not looking so good for tonight or tomorrow night but you know the drill. If the stars come out I will see you there. Maybe Sunday night if anyone is available

I am strongly considering coming down tonight. I'm worried about dew... but the rest of the forecast is looking pretty good. I'm not a key holder, so I hope someone else can unlock the outhouse. :)

I'm planning to come down tonight (Friday 9/2/16) to CGO. I have with me one of the handlebars of the BAD - we had a flat tire on the telescope.. :D It's fixed.

Yes, I had a terrible dew problem last time at CGO (still shopping for those heater strips and such). So that's why I was thinking of BAD practice :-)

We had a pretty good star party at CGO last night. The dew was indeed a problem. Vic and I will have to take a look at the dew heaters on the BAD in the daylight soon, as even with the Kendrick dew heater on, the Telrad dewed up. Aside from that the BAD behaved well. By the way, we do have the wheel back so it can be used! I had a devil of a time getting the tire back on the rim, so finally gave up and went to Tires Plus. When I walked in, they go, "A tire on a stick?!", what do you use that for?". I had to tell them I had a flat tire on a telescope, so that got laughs.

I had a great time. My only goal was to observe M62. I easily succeeded and spent the rest of the night looking at sky candy... generally in dryer telescopes. We all got to see the Veil Nebula through a filtered (Oxygen-III?) B.A.D. It certainly could have looked a lot worse. Now I need to buy filters.... thanks.
