Thursday Night 5/4 Presentation Topic

Post by RussD »

Hi Folks,
I am going to be giving the talk at the Thursday meeting. My overall topic is "15 Years of Backyard Research".

I will be talking about the current setup of my observatory, past and present work with photometry, student projects, and spectroscopy...

Many of you have heard me talk before about asteroid photometry. Istead of redoing the same talk I did years ago, I will just touch on photometry and concentrate more on new stuff about automating observations. In addition I will spend a time talking about my work with Skynet Jr. Scholars and the recent addition of a spectroscope to the observatory.

Hope to see you all there.

Hi All,

Did anyone happen to record Russ's Talk? If so, anyway for a guy to get a copy?

I saw a camera that I think was recording but I don't know for sure.

Russ, thank you VERY much for your presentation. I especially liked your explanations of problem solving regarding the automation you've implemented - particularily how you've set it up so the roof can't close on itself! Since you've explained your setup, it would be amazing to get another presentation going into more depth of what the data show and how you come to your conclusions about what's going on up there!

Thanks again!

Ben Huset was recording as usual. I'd contact him about getting a copy.

Great talk. No nodding off tonight. Nice to see how some of my hard-earned money was used :)

Thanks everyone for the support and positive feedback. It was fun for me too.

A number of people suggested options for placing the large scope in a dark location. Please contact me if you would like to continue that conversation offline.

I was asking Ben about it at the after party. He says he DOES NOT record it as it would be to big of a file to upload to a website such as YouTube (they have time limits). However if this is something many of use want, I think a general request via forum or email to the Board would be in order to check into how we can start recording the meetings. I know several people that have programs that might be persuaded to volunteer to clean up the videos-maybe a group rotation of editing skills? My husband has FTP server that we might be able to make available.
