Lunar eclipse at ELO tomorrow?

Post by pvenkat »

Hello:

Is there any activity planned for the lunar eclipse tomorrow at ELO?

Thanks in advance!

Checking Clear Outside, ELO is expected to be 99% cloud cover at 6:00am reducing to 0% by 7:00am. First contact is 4:51am, with full eclipse lasting 6:15 to 6:30am. Not sure what the view will be like. Seems like you might get a view of totally and the retreating event. Also it is going to be dang cold tomorrow morning. They are predicting -4C with windchill of -11C at 6:00am.

Clear Dark Sky shows it clearing at 4am. I won't be at ELO but hopefully they're right.

In Little Canada, the sky started clearing around 6:00am. I was able to see it when it was about 70% along and watched it on my drive in all the way to totally. I then had to attend a meeting. Shortly after that, it fell below the tree line where I was. Cool to see it. Hope others got to see it also.

Over in Hopkins, the Moon passed in and out of clouds till about 6:30am. I viewed the partial phase through thick clouds at 5:45am, and got my first decent look at 6:10am. Finally, around 7:05am I was able to view totality thru surprisingly clear skies as the totally eclipsed Moon hung about 5 degrees above my west/northwest horizon. It wasn't totally clear, but certainly clear enough. In retrospect, I wish I had prepped a telescope and/or camera on a tripod... :-(

In Bloomington, it was clear by about 6:30-6:40. Set into some trees by 6:50, so I missed totality.

From Buffalo, I capture this image very close to the beginning of totality.

Sorry about the blurred image. From the back deck, very windy.

Very nice Lunar Eclipse.
