Volunteers needed for Baylor/ELO event on 2/10/2018

Post by defalkner »

Baylor park is having a Luminary Cross Country Skiing and Dog Sled event on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 6-9 PM. We will open ELO to have folks stop by and look through our telescopes. If it's cloudy we will have tours and a talk in the classroom.

We will need six to eight volunteers to help out. You don't need to be a keyholder to help out but we will need a couple of keyholders to help open the observatories and get the telescopes running.

We will meet at ELO at 5:30 to open up the observatory. If you want to grab an early dinner at Thirsty's at 4:30 indicate that as well.

Please respond to this post.

PM sent.

For the rest of MAS members, information on Baylor Park access and the Baylor Park vehicle permit is on the ELO Discussion Forum HERE.

Tomorrow night looks to be a great night for observing, as well as for Baylor's event. We're expecting clear skies, light winds, no Moon and temps in the low teens. I am expecting the event will be well attended. It runs from 6-9 PM so it won't be a late night. Those who have helped out in the past always say what a fun time it is.

Thank you to those who have volunteered to help out. We could use a few more volunteers so we can man all the telescopes and have enough to rotate personnel and allow folks to warm up in the classroom. Just a reminder that we will be meeting at 4:30 at Thirsty's in Norwood-Young America to grab an early dinner. Otherwise plan to be at ELO by 5:30 to open up the place and get the heat on in the classroom.

See you there!!

Thirsty's is out of business. Sign says they closed Jan 1 but hope to have new ownership sometime in 2018.

For what it’s worth, it was -1 degrees on my car thermometer as I drove out of Baylor Park tonight after the event.....

Thanks Nancy, Bernie, Dave and Dave for doing most hard work last Saturday. That was a cold that hurt, especially when the cough came back.
