Ok.. Its tentatively back up at the latest released version . I know there are a few bugs in the admin section that I have already found. I would use the forum gently for now in case I have to revert to the backup at some point. So don't write that amazing post of astronomical wisdom just yet. If some people want to test out the normal features: Posting, notifications, attach photos, etc please do.

I noticed quite a few bogus registrations on the message board. It looks like the Spam Countermeasure setting was set back to "reCaptcha" instead of the "Q&A" (Question & Answer) .... I implemented the Q&A for registrations years ago to stop the bogus registrations and it was very effective.

I have gone ahead and turned the Q&A spam countermeasures back on. Hopefully it stops the bogus registrations.

The Q&A was failing recently. That was why I moved it to reCaptca. I agree reCaptca is not effective but 4 New spambots registered in the last few minutes with Q&A. I think we have to try a different Question. The one we have is not effective. maybe that will improve spambots protection.

We'll let it run awhile to see what volume we get.

BTW the reCaptcha we have is v2 ( highest version supported by PHPBB as best I can tell) v3 is more effective but we can not use it.

Maybe a new question is in order.... It may be as simple as that.

I have used Q&A on my Gopher Hockey site for years and it has been flawless...
