Hello- Just wanted to introduce myself. I have just joined MAS as I am expecting delivery of my first telescope next week. I hope to attend a starparty or meeting soon! If anyone else owns a LX200GPS let me know, I'm sure I'll have many questions on how to work the darn thing. Wish I had it tonight, skies look CLEAR!

Welcome, Andrew!
Good to have you here. I've had a 10" LX200GPS since last fall. I love it, and sometimes, hate it! It is great to get under the stars and spend the evening viewing, rather than spend the whole night looking for things to view, but it runs about double the weight of my previous scope so I find I only use it when I know it will be clear for many hours and also know I can stay awake that long! And the older I get the more difficult it becomes to stay awake all night.
Still, it is a great scope that provides wonderful views and has allowed me to begin a more serious look into astrophotography which has been much fun. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours when it arrives! Let me know if I can be of any help to you.

Welcome
Andrew, welcome to the MAS. We are always happy to see and greet new members. Your first encounter with us could be this weekend at Baylor Park, home of the Onan Observatory. We are hosting Public Observing Nights Friday and Saturday. I will be there Saturday night. Please introduce yourself around and you will be welcomed into the MAS. Ask for me if you are there Saturday night.

Hello, Andrew! Please do make yourself at home, here and at our observing sites and club meetings. Don't hesitate to ask ANY questions you might have about amateur-astronomy-related stuff-- we also discuss topics such as your favorite movie lines and cartoons here, too (some of us appreciate that kind of stuff when the skies are too cloudy to do any actual observing!)
Welcome!

Hello everyone. I had to work this weekend (I work 6pm-6am) to cover for someone on vacation so I couldn't make it to the public viewing. I also have to cover in two weeks otherwise I'd come to the Beginner's SIG meeting on the 30th. Normally Thur-Sat I'm off but it's summer and we all want time off! The star party on the 1st looks good if I've figured out how to assemble my scope in the dark and can actually get it to do something!

Greetings,
The great thing about a dob is you can assemble it blindfolded...of course you can't see much in the eyepiece until you take off the blindfold.
Of course if you arrive at the starparty before it's dark you can park easier, and set up your scope in the light.
Have fun!

Hey that reminds me of the other thing I love about Dobs.....you can assemble them while wearing a staight jacket.
I realized that one day when I forgot to take that medication....
