April B-SIG Virtual Presentation -- Saturday April 17th -- 1:00pm -- "Astronomy Terms"

Post by Sureshks »

Hello everyone,

The next virtual Beginner-SIG presentation of will be on Saturday April 17th, starting at 1:00pm.

Steve Emert will be presenting "Astronomy Terms".

Synopsis:

As is the case with any technical vocation or hobby, astronomy comes with its own specialized language, full of unusual terms and acronyms that can make it confusing to the beginner. In this B-SIG session, we will speak to many of these terms which we hope will clear the skies for you!

To join the virtual event, click this link: https://zoom.us/j/97260990378?pwd=WHB2T ... ZDbFVyUT09

Further information is posted on the front page of the MAS Forum.

Note: We will be opening up this link about 5 minutes before the event starts.

We hope you can join us!

By the way this won't be a sequential A-Z listing of terms. I'll be grouping related terms together, providing a visual interpretation of all terms, and occasionally going off onto brief tangents which are hopefully entertaining before coming quickly back to topic. Also, after completing the presentation I came across a "glossary of astronomy terms" on Celestron's web site which turns out to actually be a comprehensive listing of telescope and optical terms. I'll be posting that list as a .pdf of a Word document along with a .pdf of the presentation slides right after the meeting.

Hope to see you there on Saturday!
