SATCON2 & Short Survey on Satellite Constellations

Post by jheim »

Hello everyone!

I am a member of the "Community Engagement" Working Group for the upcoming SATCON2. This conference, which will be held July 12-16, will focus on satellite constellations, particularly on how to mitigate their effects on astronomy.

Our working group is distributing a very short survey: "Impact of Large Satellite Constellations on Astronomy."
Here is the link. https://bit.ly/satsurvey2

If you have a moment to fill out the survey and could forward the link on to any other people you know who are interested in night sky and space issues, that would be great!!

Also, registration (free!) is now open to attend the SATCON2 workshop: https://noirlab.edu/satcon2
Please share with anyone interested in learning more about this topic.

If you have any further thoughts you would like to share about satellite constellation related issues, please feel free to reach out to me. Our working group is working to get as diverse an array of perspectives as possible on this issue. So definitely from amateur and professional astronomers, of course, but they are also particularly interested in perspectives from groups such as: Indigenous communities/First Nations, Planetaria, Astrophotography and Astrotourism, Amateur Astronomers, Rural Communities, Environmental/Ecological concerns.

If you know people in any of these or other constituencies who might have an opinion to share on satellite constellations, please do share the links above with them.

Your insights will help inform our conference prep as well as post-conference recommendations.

Thank you very much for your time!

~ Jessica
