Northern Nights Star Fest 2021 - Sept 1-6 - Register NOW

Post by ValtsTreibergs »

Northern Nights Star Fest will be held at long Lake Conservation Center September 1-6, 2021.

The LLCC Committee is working hard to put together a great event. Our Featured Speaker will be Bob King on Saturday September 4th.

We will have a number of great door prizes, including some great items donated by Vortex Optics https://vortexoptics.com/

In addition to the prizes, we will hold a swap-meet, have a challenging observing list, and offer great views through our 25" and 30" Obsession telescopes!

Registration has opened up: $50 participation fee plus a-la-carte meals and various lodging options. The direct registration link is https://www.longlakecc.org/star-party-registration

Details of NNSF can be found on the event page: http://www.mnastro.org/northern-nights-star-fest/

Join us for the premier MAS Regional Star Party at our great dark-sky site.

Register soon, as space is limited.

I registered last night for this event in September and am confused about lodging. I have never been to LLCC and this would be my first MAS event.

When I went through the registration process for lodging, there was a camp site option offered for $15.00 a night, which I chose for 3 nights. I paid for my registration and camp site for a total of $95.00.  This morning I looked at the NNSF FAQ and it indicates camping is not available at LLCC, but at a location 7 miles away. I am confused and frustrated.

I would appreciate answers to these questions:
1. Is there camping available AT LLCC?
2. Is it tent camping or can I bring my small (13') travel trailer?
3. Where is camping located on the property is relation to the buildings and observing field?
4. Is there access to basic amenities, like water, shower, toilet?
5. Can I cook or use a small grill outside of my trailer?
6. I paid for 3 nights camping, but there was no way to indicate which 3 nights - how does this happen?

I also submitted most of these questions to info@longlakecc.org, as I wasn't sure who would have the answers.

Thank you very much

1. Is there camping available AT LLCC?
We are offering the ability to park your camper at LLCC, but it is not a true camp ground.
2. Is it tent camping or can I bring my small (13') travel trailer?
You can tent or bring a travel trailer.
3. Where is camping located on the property is relation to the buildings and observing field?
You trailer would be on the parking lot behind the dinning hall. A tent would be on the grass area to the south of the Marcum house.
4. Is there access to basic amenities, like water, shower, toilet?
There is access to toilets in the dinning hall. There is no dedicated shower facilities for camping. I will look into the ability to have a room available for campers to share for showering.
5. Can I cook or use a small grill outside of my trailer?
Yes you can grill outside trailer. There is no dumping of grey water allowed. Not sure where you can wash dishes, using disposable would be best.
6. I paid for 3 nights camping, but there was no way to indicate which 3 nights - ho
You can pick the nights then, not a show stopper.

Will the LLCC extend our lodging through Monday night? Might be a clear night, when the earlier nights of the Star Fest look pretty cloudy at this point.

Yes, you need to leave Tue AM. There is no dinner Monday night, or brunch on Tue.

Is it possible to go up to LLCC early? Monday (today) or Tuesday? Will any lodging be available? Are any MAS members going to be there already?

No unfortunately we are only allowed to arrive on Wednesday. Maybe next year we can expand to a full week to increase the possibility of good weather. Fill out the questionnaire I emailed out and give us your opinion.

I will be in a small travel trailer. Is there access to electricity - mostly needed for CPAPs?
Can't wait to get up there.

What's the best and shortest way to get up to LLCC from Eagan?

I have never been there before.
