Yerkes Observatory Re-Opens for Tours May 27th!!!

Post by Sureshks »

Hi all,

Yerkes Observatory Tours kick off May 27!

We’ve been restoring our buildings, grooming our grounds, and collecting artifacts in preparation for your visit... It's time to be star-stuck again! Advance tickets required.

Get your tour tickets at www.yerkesobservatory.org; full website coming soon.

Yerkes was closed to the public in October 2018. An agreement was made in November 2019 to transfer the facility from the University of Chicago to the non-profit Yerkes Future Foundation (YFF). COVID slowed down the renovation and re-opening... but it looks like they are about to re-launch!

No mention of night time observing through the telescopes though, huh?

I think they're still getting things rolling again. There are still some renovations going on. I suspect that they'll have the telescopes operating again shortly. I'm curious if they'll start up the annual ~ Memorial Weekend star party again. Those were a lot of fun. Last time I went I ran into Merle, Kurt and Deane!
