It's Not Rocket Science, It's Balloon Science

Post by Frank Kenney »

60 years ago my adolescent hero and future balloon racing competitor, Joe Kittinger, now 94 years old, famous for his stratospheric parachute jump, and first person to fly a balloon solo across the Atlantic Ocean, flew amateur astronomer William White to the stratosphere in a balloon manufactured in Minneapolis, for a proof of concept mission for future space telescopes and hundreds of balloon astronomy mission still a mainstay of astronomy researchers today.

We continue to stand on the shoulders of that great generation.
