2023 Perseid recommendations.
We should be getting a few queries from the public on where to watch the Perseids soon. Are we going to recommend ELO? I haven’t heard of any special ELO event being planned ?
I am aware of several members considering CGO Saturday. Enough that we may have parking issues so I’m thinking not mentioning CGO to the general public.
If the weather is good the night of 12-13 should be great from a dark site.

Yes, I'm super interested in recommendations for Perseids, I was thinking of Afton State Park I'm just not sure how late you can actually be in a state park.

Most state parks are closed to non-campers from 10pm - 5am.

Even if there is no scheduled event, members can go to ELO and stay as late as they want. I think I will be there, as long as the weather holds.

Members could also use Metcalf (near Afton) and Cherry Grove (near Kenyon or West Concord) and stay as late as they want.

Re: 2023 Perseid recommendations.
Hello, I’m new here and was wondering if I were to get to cgo or possibly somewhere else tomorrow (Saturday) early (so I can park in an appropriate spot) would I be able to join one of you guys there to view Perseid? Unsure of how this generally works from what I’ve been able to read skimming through the forum and the sites for the observatories. I’m interested in attending a star party but it looks like there are not any open to the public this weekend. Maybe that would be a better place to start but Im really excited about this as a new hobby and thought I would take a chance and ask. any recommendations/suggestions are welcome!
Thanks!

Hello all!
I am planning on going to ELO today and arriving around 7:30ish. From reading above, it looks like there will be at least a handful of people there.
I am far from being a great resource of the stars but need to get out of the city to see the meteor shower tonight. It looks to be a clear sky tonight as well.

I’m curious, were there clouds? I decided to save a lot of drive time and went across the street to St. Kate’s where I saw one bright, short one. (Yeah,. . .whoopee.)

GGO was partial cloudy early then almost total clouds by midnight when I gave up. I saw maybe 6 total.

I didn’t get to ELO until about midnight and it was almost completely cloudy by then.
