Meade parts -FREE

Post by Phil Ramsay »

Old Meade PARTS - Free to a good home:

I have a 1989 or so Meade model 2120 10” SCT on an LX-6 (I think) quartz drive on an equatorial wedge and field tripod.
It was gifted to me, and has been dormant for decades probably, but seems to work as far as I can tell.

I just de-forked it, and put the OTA on a harmonic drive.
That’s all I really want to keep.

Would anyone be interested any of the remaining mount and tripod parts either for repairs or replacement?

Meade 10” SCT fork, quartz drive, hand control, wedge, field tripod, finder scope and mounting hardware, and storage footlocker are up for grabs, or it will meet a sad demise.

I would be happy to meet or drop off within a reasonable distance of the Minneapolis metropolitan area.

Photos available.

Send me a message if interested!

Could I see some pictures? I'm curious if I could retrofit the old 2080 8" that I was gifted to sit on that. What I was gifted didn't have any controls or cords, so I've been doing manual mode while I search for a controller that might work...not even sure if the fork motors work.

Steve,

Thanks for the interest- I’ll send some pictures in a private message.

FYI I got a private message from another member acknowledging your interest, and saying he’s interested in whatever you can’t use.

Give me a bit to find photos and post them

Easier to just post photos in one place.

Thanks for the pictures. That looks like the same era controller and power cord that I'm looking for.
But...I've been doing some research on mounting my 8" on a 10" fork...and it sounds like it's not something that I'm better off not attempting as I'm still relatively new to the astronomy world, and having to craft shims to make up the 2 inch difference looks to be a difficult task.

Thanks again, but I'll pass on it and let it go to the other person.

Steve,

Thanks for the feedback on how you want to proceed- for what it’s worth I think you made a good choice to pass on it.
Good as exact replacement parts, but likely very challenging to adapt.
