March B-SIG Virtual Presentation -- Sat. March 23rd -- 1:00pm -- "The Golden Age of Medieval Islamic Astronomy - Part 2"

Post by Sureshks »

Hi everyone,

The final virtual B-SIG presentation of the 2023-24 Winter season will be on Saturday March 23rd, starting at 1:00pm.

Ahmed Reda will be presenting "The Golden Age of Medieval Islamic Astronomy - Part 2".

Synopsis:

"A year ago, we discussed “The Golden Age of Medieval Islamic Astronomy”, journeying through different stages of middle eastern astronomy from preservation of knowledge, developing new theories and observational innovations.

In this talk we will continue our journey diving into more examples of astronomical theory development and observational innovations."

Part 1 of Ahmed's look at Islamic contributions to astronomy drew a lot of praise from our members, and was a definite highlight of the 2023 BSIG calendar.

If you did not attend that March 2023 BSIG session, or would like to revisit, you can watch “The Golden Age of Medieval Islamic Astronomy - Part 1” on our MAS YouTube page here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxp-zwqGTsE

Ahmed has had a few different roles within the MAS. He presently serves on the MAS Board, and was a member on the ELO Committee for several years. He also has 3 children who are already budding amateur astronomers. His sister also recently joined the MAS, after moving from Iowa where she served on the board of the Cedar Rapids Astronomy Club.

Click this Zoom link to attend this virtual BGIG presentation: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81328116479?p ... .1#success

We will open the Zoom call about 10 minutes before 1:00pm for attendees to join.

As with all BSIG winter presentations, this Zoom presentation will be recorded. It will be uploaded to our MAS YouTube Channel within a few days after this presentation.

Also, please note that the first BSIG outdoor observing session of 2024 is schedued for Saturday April 27th, starting at 7:00pm (weather permitting). We can't wait to get back outside with our telescopes!!
