Help assemble my telescope please
I need assistance reassembling my apogee 8" f4 telescope. The mirror is not installed and I can't seem to figure out how to put it in place without disassembling the whole thing. My goal is to attach my sony alpha camera to it so I can shoot some stars and planets. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks-
Reed

Hello Reed...
In General where in the Twin Cities or suburbs do you live? We have members all over and if someone is near it may be easiest. I for instance live in Southwest Woodbury. Also there is the BSIG Meeting this 24nd where maybe I or another member can assist you before or after the meeting. There is also General meeting on March 1 that someone could possibly meet you prior to the meeting.
Besides the assembly collimating or aligning the optics will be key to have good performance. Many of us own lasers collimation tools to do this on our own scopes. You can do it manually though an f4 s are a little more difficult.
A picture of all the parts would help determine if you have all the pieces to put it back together.

Re: Help assemble my telescope please
Hi Reed: We are having an imagers meet in Baylor Regional Park Park at the Eagle Lake Observatory (7:00 pm on Saturday the 24). Since the moon is bright we are not likely to take images, but I do hope some will come out and set up their rigs. If you can bring your equipment maybe we can help you get it together and get you setup for imaging. We are meeting for at Unhinged Pizza for supper at 5:30 pm. I think there will be other beginners there, so you won't be alone.

The address is: County Rd 33, Norwood Young America, MN 55397
Unhinged Pizza: 425 Merger St, Norwood Young America, MN 55368
Barring that I generally have time available to help you at your hose if you wish.
I hope to see you there.

Re: Help assemble my telescope please
Here's another thing that might help...
There are many telescope brands that source from one of two manufacturers. Because of this, there is high probability that your telescope was either manufactured by GSO or by Synta. If you can find manuals, part breakdowns, pictures, or videos for telescopes that look the same, but have different brands, you might be able to figure out how to put it together.
Here's a link to a GSO 8" mirror cell that is without a mirror. This might help.

Good advice. Also, I sent Reed a PM offering to help directly if he'd like.

Re: Help assemble my telescope please
FYI -- in Clayton's note above he referenced the upcoming BSIG presentation. He stated it was on the 22nd. It's actually on Saturday 2/24 at 1:30pm at the Edina Public Library.
If this Saturday does not work, the next one will be on 3/24 at 9:30am at the Hopkins Public Library.

Re: Help assemble my telescope please
I'm subscribed to the Imaging SIG forum but aren't getting notified of postings. I get notified of other forums I'm subscribed to. I'll look deeper into it.
