U of M "Universe in the Park" request/invitation

Post by SEmert »

We got the following email from Dain Kavars at the U of M Astronomy Department, inviting any MAS members interested to come to the Universe in the Park sessions this summer - either as part of the audience, or to help out by bringing your scope to show off the night skies. Last year I and several others attended some of the functions. It's a blast! Steve Emert

Hello,

I'd like to take this space to notify MAS that the Department of Astronomy at the University of Minnesota will again be holding Universe in the Park (UITP) events this summer. For those unfamiliar with UITP, a team of 2-3 graduate students/faculty travel to various state parks (usually near the metro area) and give a short 20-30 minute presentation on some introductory topic of astronomy. Afterwards, if the skies are clear we set up a couple of telescopes for general viewing.

For full details, please see our website at:

http://www.astro.umn.edu/outreach/uitp/

Anyone, regardless of their astronomy knowledge, is welcome to attend. If you have your own telescope and would like to bring it along, you are encourage to do so. The more the merrier!

If you could pass this message along to members of the MAS, we would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
