Nate, I can't make it this weekend. Haven't heard of anyone else heading up either.

The sky was great. Found the new comet by Cassiopeia. Seeing the planets was also unusually good for how clear it was. Mosquitos were trying to fly off with me.

Hi Nate,

Which new comet is in Cassiopeia?

Wish I had known when I was at CGO Saturday night. The only one I found was Comet P21/Giacobini-Zinner in Cepheus...

PanSTARRS (C/2017 S3)
Actually it's closer to Camelopardalis than Cassiopeia and northeast of the Double Cluster. It gets higher above the trees before dawn.

BTW - The Marcum House was not open on Friday night. Long nap in the car instead.

Interesting observation:
3 vehicles pulled into the parking area by the food court building at around 11:30pm. The 3-4 individuals walked in the direction of the Marcum house. Maybe they were sleeping and locked the doors inside.
From my years of star parties at LLCC, it is not normal for people to show up on a Friday night to just sleep in the dorms.

Hi Nate,

Thank you very much! I'll look for 2017 S3 the next time out. Take a look at 21P Giacobini-Zinner too. It's got a nice little fan-shaped tail at PA 195 and is brightening by the day now...
