Crab Pulsar

Post by Bsting »

Ran into Dr. John Cocke, Co-discoverer of the Crab Pulsar, at a lecture at the UofA in Tucson.
The discovery was done at Kitt Peak, just outside of Tucson, in 1969 after radio pulses were detected in the area of the Crab Nebula and he decided to look at the stars in the Crab for its optical counterpart.
He was in town to celebrate 50 years after the discovery with his co-discoverers.
Quite a surprise after just reading the article on the Pulsar in Sky&Telescope.

Awesome! It’s almost as if Arizona is a better place to do astronomy than Minnesota :)
