Cedar Creek Science Reserve

Post by ddn »

I just heard that there was a star party at Cedar Creek Science Reserve recently. I didn't see any postings about it. Did I miss the announcement?

It was our first one there. It was intended to be a bit low key so we could judge conditions, location, building obstruction, local interest.

Turns out we had 4 scopes and 9 attendees. It was fun if a bit cold on the feet with the slush around. The building was mostly only in the way for Mark Jobb who setup to close to it, but that only prevented him from getting to a couple of things. He found many other sites to show off.

I have "fun" collimating my SCT. Thanks to Dave and Jon for all the help with that task. It is a bit of a pain with a 9.25" SCT to do it by myself.

We will be have 2 more events in the fall and I imagine they will be announced here to encourage more scopes and attendees.

PS. I find it funny the spell checker here thinks collimating is misspelled, as well as collimate and collimation.

UPDATE 10/4: I have been asked by several teachers about the upcoming Cedar Creek Star Party with the MAS. Had to shake my head. Anyone?

Didn't see this on the Outreach forum and according to their calendar:

October 19th: 7pm - 10pm: Astronomy Event with MAS. As part of a new partnership with the Minnesota Astronomical Society, we invite you to join us for an evening of astronomy! We'll begin with a brief general-audience talk from one of our MAS experts...

Can I ask who will be the MAS expert(s) in attendance? :-)
