Museum of the Moon at the Bell

Post by Deane Clark »

I posted about this event in the MAS Announcements and Discussion forum, but I couldn’t post pictures there. So here are a couple.

Here’s a challenge. Can anyone find the Apollo 11 landing site imagery in this article on the moon at the Bell?

EDIT - OK, never mind. Each centimeter on the moon sphere represents 5 km on the real moon. The image in the article above spans about 250m so, about 0.5mm on the sphere.

Sure. Pick Apollo 11, the mission with the least EVA time, therefore the smallest footprint! Maybe Apollo 16 or 17 with the Rover, so there are several miles of tracks to find!

As far as I can tell from the LRO images I found, Apollo 16 and 17 only explored an area about 300 meters across.

However, on Apollo 15, they explored much further from the LEM; maybe as much as 4 miles?
