Happy Anniversary, APOD!!

Post by Ron Schmit »

This slipped through the 5 hole on me... Last month, on June 16, 2020, APOD celebrated 25 years!

As the name implies, APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day) is a web site which publishes a new picture everyday. It's an amazing collection, with submissions from throughout the world. Almost better than the pictures, is the hyperlink-ladened explanation below the photo. You can just enjoy the picture, or you can learn the name of the object from the caption, or you can take a deep dive into the explanation and burn your whole morning. (Yeah, maybe I did... So what?)

Here's the anniversary video: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap200616.html

Heard a discussion with one of the editors of APOD. Where they used to get 10 submissions for each one photo they would use, now it's 100's. So many people with so much great gear generating some super-cool images. We live in the future!

My personal favorite is the April Fool's Image for 2005.
