Rescheduling August B-SIG Observing Session to Fri. August 28th -- 7:00pm -- Eagle Lake Observatory

Post by Sureshks »

Hi everyone,

Due to the cancellation of the BSIG earlier this month due to weather, I'm rescheduling it to Friday August 28th. If it's cloudy that night, we'll move it to Saturday Aug. 29th.

Due to COVID we are limited to 25 attendees, so if you are planning to attend please respond here or drop me an e-mail at sureshks1@msn.com.

There is no charge to attend a B-SIG event, and everyone is welcome to join us! The purpose is to help beginners learn the night sky, and how to set up and use a telescope. Volunteers from the MAS will be on hand to answer your questions, and to show you celestial objects thru their telescopes.

We typically have telescopes of all shapes and sizes on hand. If you have a telescope, feel free to bring it. If you need help with learning how to set up and use it, we can help! Otherwise, we'll have telescopes available for you to look through.

The 84% illuminated Moon will rise at 5:40pm that night. Still, we'll have plenty of objects to view, with Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, the brighter Milky Way and Fall objects well placed for viewing.

Please bring a lawn chair or blanket. Also, bring a few extra clothes layers, as temps can dip at night. Finally, please bring a snack or beverage to share. It makes for a fun night! :D

Eagle Lake Observatory is within Baylor Regional Park.

Baylor Regional Park: 10775 County Road 33, Norwood-Young America, MN

Latitude: 44.8103
Longitude: -93.9397

From the Cities, head west on Hwy 212 to County Road 33. Turn right (north) and go about 3 miles to Baylor Regional Park.

Please note that there has been some road construction on County Rd 33. If it is still ongoing on Aug. 1st, just follow the detour signs, which will route you back onto CR 33 about a mile up from 212 at the roundabout. From there, take a right turn to get to the park.

I will make the final Go/No Go call on Thursday Aug. 27th, based on the weather forecast for Friday night. Please check this post for updates.

We hope to see you there!!
