This is the last weekend for our Apollo landing site display: Due to storage constraints, we will be permanently dismantling the module display after this weekends events.

As part of the Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) 50th anniversary celebration, we have once again set up our lunar module mock-up. Over the past few weekends, the events at the Eagle Lake Observatory were a huge success with hundreds visiting during the day and into the night. The unique "exhibit" is our nearly full scale Lunar Module mockup and Apollo 11 landing site recreation on the ball field below the observatory. Everyone I spoke to was very impressed an thankful for our efforts in bringing the lunar site down to earth.

Join us Friday October 14 and/or for this weekend’s Public Star Party, Saturday, October 15th when the module will on display. The events begin at 4:00 pm. NOTE: We do have a private event on Friday evening at the observatory, but the lunar site will be set up and open to all. The main event will be the public star party on Saturday October 15.

For one last time, you will be able to walk around our simulated lunar landing area to get a sense of how astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin worked and where the experiments, some of which are still used today, were deployed. This may be as close as any of us will get to actually walking in the astronauts footsteps. If clear, we will also be observing throughout the afternoon and evening with Jupiter and Saturn being prominent in the evening skies.

Continue to commemorate this historic event with the us at the Eagle Lake Observatory, located within Baylor Regional Park at 10775 County Rd. 33, Norwood Young America, MN 55397

I just ran across this YouTube video: What the Apollo 11 Site Looks Like Today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqXtPNDCuVk

After having worked on recreations of a number of the items left on the surface for the 2019 and 2022 LM site mockups at ELO, seeing animated recreations of those same instruments on lunar regolith instead of green grass seems oddly weird.
