Aurora tonight! 4/23

Post by Nick Paratore »

The forecast for tonight looks promissing for seeing the aurora. Would it be a possibility to view it at the ELO? (weather pending) Provided that one of the keyholders is there to open gates? Thanks!

My partner and I were also curious if a keyholder will be around ELO this evening!

See this topic in the Observing SIG, Northern Lights from ELO / CGO / nearby
The gates don't typically lock until 10:00pm. I was out there recently, and I know they were open at about 9:30pm. You should be fine if you get there before then and they pen automatically for you to exit.

Here’s the thread John mentioned:

The gates at Baylor don’t close until 10:00. This seems promising enough that I am planning to go out to ELO about 10. I will plan to leave the gate open. Remember, only members are allowed in the park after 10.

The updated forecast predicted the arrival of the geostorm earlier than expected. Highest Kp's visible just after sunset. So I might show up around 8pm given that the gate is open at that time.

Here's some shots I got from last night. Awesome light show despite the clouds!
