Seeing in the Dark

Passing along a note from Dick Jacobson about "Seeing in the Dark"
It will be repeated next Sunday at 6:00 PM on Channel 2. See
http://www.pbs.org/seeinginthedark/airdates.html . It's well worth
watching, covers a lot of topics and does a good job of conveying the
"flavor" of amateur astronomy.
The MAS sponsored a quick 15 second ad at the begining and again at the end. The ad was not shown on the High Definition broadcast, but it was shown on the regular def channel. I don't know if the ad is running with these repeats or not. Our own Mike Koppelman is part of the show. Former MN Vikings running back Robert Smith and eagle-eyed astronomer Steven O'Meara are also featured.

It's a great program.

.

Also Barbara Wilson and Stephen O'Meara, legendary visual observers.

The ad trailed the 1AM rerun on 17.

I was on Forums about 20 minutes after the end of the first run, and there was
no extra interest seen in Forum use...

There was 1 guest (and me online), and that's normal or less for 8:20pm
weeknight use I suppose.

No huge impact anyway?

The production did a great job of highlighting the digital
revolution in amateur astronomy and the intrinsic uncertainty of
astronomy in general discretely.

[ P.S. Wouldn't the HDTV viewer be our prime ad target audience
and how did we manage to miss them with this? ]

Tom,

Apparently they do not yet have "ads" for HD. We (the board) were unaware of this, but nothing we could have done differently anyway apparently.

I watched it in HD and saw the ads. They looked great. Even if we didn't see a direct impact, it is important to let the community know we are here and that was a good way to do it, IMHO.
