I posted this a while ago and got close to getting the 10 orders needed. OK so who wants a copy. If you do, please reply here and I'll collect money and put together an order. Assuming I get the 10 needed, the cost will be $61.00 plus another $5.00 if you want me to mail your copy to you + $5.00 MAS profit., total $66, or $71.

I'm putting myself down for one copy.

Skytools 2 - Observation planning and charting program
I heard about this one, but haven't seen it myself. I know it was in use at Okie-tex. From the reports, it's an excellent tool at your desk for planning or out in the dark with your scope. It can be configured to show a wide view, a finder scope view and an eyepiece view simultaneously. These charts can be printed, or
used in the field. Us starhoppers love this sort of thing. There are tons of features.

Price is $99. They also have a 40% club discount I am SERIOUSLY thinking about getting an order together for those interested. If you're interested, let me know, so I can gauge the interest. If I get enough interest, I'll put an order together. The Real-time add-on is not eligible for the group discount. :( If you want that, you will need to order it for yourself.

Bill: Are you still planning on putting in an order, or am I too late?

I have been using Cartes du Ciel, a free download, with good reviews. Could you briefly comment on what SkyTools2 can do that Cartes du Ciel does not do??

Thanks

Steve

I have not made the order yet. You would be #9, and I need 10 to get the group order discount.

Cartes du Ciel is a charting program. I use it myself. Sky tools can do charts too, but it also oriented towards planning an observing session. It will let you select what types of objects you might be interested in observing and provide you with lists.. You can select based on catalog, type of object, magnitude, date time etc etc. It is pretty sophisticated in this regard.

The other thing that it can do, that I think is very useful is that it will show three views of the same object; a naked ey view of the sky to get the general location, a finders scope chart and finally an eyepiece view. If you have the program out at the scope with you, or preprint the chart it should be very useful. With Cartes, you need to keep changing the zoom level.

You can check out the website referenced at the top of this thread.

OK, you sold me. Count me in.

The planning and the multiple views do look quite useful indeed.

One more to go!

I'm standing up and want to be counted.

Do you assume I'm 'financially good for it' or if not, will 'Bruno from collections' be visiting Metcalf?

Thanks Bill !

Yup it's a club thing. I will start gathering the orders.
I started a new thread to announce the process.
