November B-SIG Meeting - Telescopes Part II

Post by defalkner »

Greetings,

Our November B-SIG meeting will be held on Saturday, November 19, 10:30 AM to noon at the Golden Valley Library, 830 Winnetka Ave. N., Golden Valley.

Our topic this month will be the continuation of our discussion on telescopes with our presentation "Telescopes - Part 2: Care and Feeding of Telescopes & Accessories and Gadgets."

Last month we talked about the types of telescopes and mounts. This month we will talk about taking care of your telescope, optical alignment techniques, all the stuff that goes on a telescope such as eyepieces, finder scopes, filters, dew control, etc. We will also touch on some of the useful gadgets for telescopes that are nice to have but not mandatory.

This is another of those informative open discussions suitable for the beginner and veteran alike. We hope to see you there.

Thanks to everyone that came to the B-SIG meeting yesterday. We had some good discussions.

During the meeting the question came up as to where to buy eyepiece bolt cases and replacement eyepiece caps and plugs. There are quite a few places to get them on the web. The major online suspects (OPT, Astronomics, High Point Scientific, Orion, Anacortes, etc.) all carry a good selection. In addition, several of the smaller online retailers also carry them:

Caps and plugs

Cloudynights.com review of EyepieceCaps.com (same as eyepiececaps.net) - http://www.cloudynights.com/item.php?item_id=1616
Note as of Nov 30 2011 - currently his web site is "down for construction". I contacted him by email, and he is still in business selling eyepiece caps and plugs. The site will be back up within a few days.

Of course, if you are in the area of Mounds View, stop in to see if Radio City has any of them on hand.
