My telescope needs a bath!

Post by ChrisPolston »

Hello, I am new to the listserv. I recently purchased a used Astroscan off eBay. It works pretty well, but I have noticed that its view is very dark compared to my 7x50 binoculars. Is there anyone in MAS that is willing and able to clean an Astroscan?

Thanks,
Chris

Greetings Chris,

I've done some work on my astroscan so I might be able to help you. If you can, pm me and send me some photos of your astroscan's mirror and glass window so I can see what you see. In the meantime, you might want to check out this webpage: http://telescopium.org/Astroscan_Repair.html

Also, remember that a pair of binoculars will generally make the skies look inkier w/ more stars just because you're using both your eyes. Aperture is awesome (and often necessary), but it's not substitute for using both eyes - hence the reason for the large binoculars of 100mm of aperture (per eye) or more. There are few things as genuinely inspiring as seeing the deep heavens with both eyes.
