Camping With The Stars - B-SIG involvement

Post by Enberg »

To the B-Sig community: I want to point out the MAS family star party weekend "Camping With The Stars" at Baylor park/Eagle Lake Observatory in August. This is a weekend star party and family camping event, and there are several sessions on the schedule that are particularly well-suited for the B-SIG. We are having a Telescope Clinic on Friday evening - to help anyone who shows up with their telescope. This will be similar to the clinic we did in February, but much better because you can use your telescope right there on Friday night with the help of the coaches!

Also, traditionally the B-SIG hosts the Saturday supper cook-out and potluck dinner - this means we can use help with flipping burgers etc and clean-up afterwards. I recall that burgers and hot dogs are provided and everything else is potluck.

Registration is open for CWTS - you register with the Carver County Parks people for this event. If you don't want to camp, it is also possible to register just for the day/evening on Saturday and stay as long as you like until we close the observatory down at dawn! The campground usually fills up and you can also choose to camp on the ballfield right by the observatories. This is more convenient, less shade though, and cheaper option than the campground proper. Ballfield campers do have full access to the showers etc at the campground.

All the details are on the MAS website under "Events". We are not having a traditional B-SIG meeting during August, with the expectation that many of us will be at CWTS.

Cheers,

Nancy
