Moderator question
I'm now moderator of the Imaging SIG forum, and one of the things I'd like to do is "unstick" an ancient topic. Online explanations I've dug up suggest I should be seeing either more controls or more options in the "quick-mod" list. This is what I see when I'm looking at the list of topics, or the particular topic I want to unstick:
And this is what I see in the moderator panel:
Nowhere can I find anything that looks like it can make topics sticky or un-stick them. Can someone tell me how this is done, or maybe point me to a help resource for this particular version of phpBB?
Thanks!

Re: Moderator question
Dave,
This is what you should be able to see. Our forum moderators may need to look into why you don't see this menu.
As a moderator myself, I should be able to see the same, but I only see what you're seeing too.

Re: Moderator question
As a moderator you can click on a post's "headline" and be able to edit the post (when you click the edit button). This includes the option to remove "stickie" status.
You can go into the moderator control panel, but this is a MUCH easier way to do it.

Re: Moderator question
Jon,
I'm not sure what you mean by "headline," but when I click on the edit button of the first post in a topic I don' see anything that looks like it will let me do anything other than delete the post.
The moderator panel isn't just more difficult, it simply doesn't provide any way to change sticky status.
If you want I can send you screen captures of what I see.

You see something different at the bottom of the page... Here's what I see when I click the edit button on the thread's first post:

Re: Moderator question
It's been a week and nothing's been said about this. Is the problem at my end of the process, or is there a problem with the forum? If the latter, has it been put on someone's to-do list to see if it can be fixed? And if it's something I'm missing, is there a reference for moderators for this version of the forum software that I can look at?

Re: Moderator question
Or perhaps business obligations have limited time available to spend on hobbies during the past week - been super busy in "real life". I will try to look into this issue as time allows, hopefully within the next few days.

Re: Moderator question
Jon,
Thanks, there's not the least urgency for this--I was just wondering if it had fallen through the cracks, or if I had done something wrong with some settings someplace. While looking at online help I noticed that the phpBB permissions system was complex to say the least. If I can be of any help, let me know.

Re: Moderator question
Do moderators have access to EDIT a post?
As an admin, I have that access. I can go in to the first post off a thread and edit it. Then select STICKY at the bottom.
Example: I was able to go in to the Sticky thread in the Imaging SIG and unstick the thread.

Re: Moderator question
Yes, I can edit, delete, lock, but not change the sticky status. Jon and I have been talking about this, and he's working on it--note the Imaging SIG moderator "ModDev," that's him ... you might want to talk to him.Jupiter wrote:Do moderators have access to EDIT a post?

Re: Moderator question
I will check the moderator permissions when I get the chance.
FYI... This place should be upgraded to the latest version of phpBB. The new version is mobile responsive and 100x easier to use on a phone.

Re: Moderator question
I'm resurrecting this thread to ask about some moderator assignments.
I noticed tonight that the General Astronomy and Marketplace sections have no assigned moderators. Furthermore, the Media and Books section moderator is "Gomanson" who is no longer a valid user (and I have no idea who that would have been).
The reason I was looking is that I feel the General Astronomy secion is getting a lot of topics that really should be in places like MAS Announcements and Discussion, or Observing SIG. General Astronomy should really be reserved for things related to the science of astronomy.
And, yes, I will volunteer for moderator duty if the powers that be think that would be appropriate.

Re: Moderator question
This came up a while back too. Unfortunately, the same problem persists. When in the Admin page, I select the link to the Forum Moderators and it STILL just shows a blank web page.Deane Clark wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 11:57 pm I'm resurrecting this thread to ask about some moderator assignments.

Re: Moderator question
As a matter of fact, when I select any tab or menu that relates to Permissions, I get the same blank screen. Is there a "Universal" setting somewhere that disables all Permissions or modifications to Permissions???
