logsheets and templates

Post by Enberg »

This morning at the BSIG meeting we were discussing various formats for recording and organizing your observation records. Here are links to several of the websites for templates discussed:

1. http://www.astronomylogs.com/ Has free downloads of logsheets, logbooks for popular AL programs, and several other useful downloads including guides for evaluating seeing and transparency, a lunar atlas, and some other goodies.

2. http://www.astromax.org/aa02801.htm Has logbooks available for the most popular AL programs, and also has general-use logsheets to download.

3. http://www.perezmedia.net/beltofvenus/templates.html This site is by someone who specializes in sketching, but he also has some general templates and especially, links to sites all over the world including dedicated templates for sketching planets (rings of Saturn at various inclinations) and the Moon. I myself use thier "condensed logsheet" for most of my records.

No one logsheet is right for everyone - try out ones that look good until you find one that works for you!

Cheers,

Bumping this up after today's BSIG meeting. Links to good resources for logsheets etc. Also, here is the link to the AL Observing Programs site:

And, here is a link Jerry mentioned:

Thank you to Nancy and Jerry for an interesting and information-filled BSIG this morning!

Lots of good questions from around the room. I know I learned quite a bit and am motivated in both conducting more general observing activities as well as directing some time and energy on AL programs (cool lanyard bling, here I come!).

Warmest regards to everyone (on these cold fall days),
Mary.

Another link I just found, straight from the AL Observing Programs website, on how to evaluate seeing and transparency:
