Speakers Needed for Astronomy Day - May 14th
Astronomy Day is about a month away so I'm putting out a call for speakers. The speaker time slots are 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00. At 7 PM someone will give the "What's Up Tonight" talk. The 9:30 talk is usually a tour of the sky given on the plaza.
If you are interested in giving a talk in the afternoon please respond to this post with the name of your talk and the time slot you would like. Please respond even if we have discussed your giving a talk.
If you would like to give the "What's Up Tonight" talk please indicate your desire to do so in this post.

I'll do the What's Up... talk if there aren't already any takers. Otherwise I'm sure I can come up with a different presentation for one of the other time slots.

I can do a Power Point called "Astronomy: the Versatile Hobby". Recently updated for my astronomy class. Introduces types of telescopes, binos, star wheels, astronomy on the web, star parties, etc.
Any time. Slight preference for later in the day, but I really prefer to have my whole hour.
Last time I was cut back to 35 minutes. Previous speaker went way over.
Also, later in the evening, I may try to organize an informal planisphere lesson. I plan to stand up on a chair or stool and invite people to come over, hand out star wheels and red lights, and then show people how to use the star wheels, tell a couple of constellation stories.
*** I will be careful to NOT interfere with any sky tour or outdoor class under way. ***

Michael - Your presentation sounds great. I'll put you down for the 4:00 to 5:00 hour right before the Dinner Break. That will allow for a little give on the time.

Dave, I can do "The Moon: Our Nearest Neighbor" . Do we have sound speakers that plug into computers? I have a couple video clips imbedded in the presentation that need amplifiers for the sound. (Tranquility Base here, the Eagle Has Landed"!!!).

Nancy, we can use the sound system in the Hotspot- so sound should be no issue.

Do you have the widget to hook up to a Mac in the HotSpot classroom?

I don't know, Merle. I have an older MacBook and I've never used it with a projector. The available sockets look different than the picture. Before, I've just brought my work laptop but there have been security upgrades that make that less practical for me. I'll be sure to have a copy of my talk on a jump drive so I can play it on Dave's computer if necessary.

Could you post pictures of the ports that you do have?

I've got VGA adapters for older Macs too. I'll bring them for you to try.Enberg wrote:I don't know, Merle. I have an older MacBook and I've never used it with a projector.
