September B-SIG Observing -- MOVED TO SATURDAY SEPT. 17th

Post by Sureshks »

Hello everyone,

The September B-SIG observing session will be back at Metcalf on Saturday night Sept. 17th. Unfortunately, this is Full Moon night (the "Corn Moon").

But we can still view the Mars, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, as well as the brighter deep sky objects. If you've got a telescope, please bring it!! The more the merrier. If you're having issues with your telescope, or would just like to learn how to set it up and use it, bring it along -- this would be an excellent opportunity to check that off of your list too!

Let's plan on meeting at the Metcalf observing field around sunset (7:30pm).

Here is a link to the MAS Metcalf webpage that contains directions on how to get there: http://www.mnastro.org/facilities/metcalf/

If you've got a GPS unit, these coordinates are very precise: Latitude: N 44.93734 Longitude: W 92.82157

As you're getting close to the site you'll be heading south along a curve. The entrance to the Metcalf observing field will be on your right. It's a very small entrance and very easy to miss, especially in the dark -- so do try to get there with some daylight left. If you're running late, or do get lost, please call or text me at: 612-910-0444 and we'll reel you in!

This year's observing sessions have been a lot of fun. We had about 20 people attend the August B-SIG back on August 13th. The Perseid meteor shower had top billing that night, and several of us ended up pulling an all-nighter!!

Please respond here, or e-mail me at sureshks1@msn.com to let me know that you're planning to come.

We hope to see you!!

Hello Suresh,
I am planning to come! I am a beginner, with no scope. I look forward to viewing, and discussing what would be a good first telescope to purchase.
See you Friday,
Joanne Burgio
ps: Thanks for organizing this meeting

Hi Joan -- sounds good!

I'm looking forward to meeting you!!

FYI -- After looking at the weather forecast today I'm thinking of changing to our backup date, which is Saturday night. I hope that doesn't mess with your plans...
